Carlos Vela Shines in 2-0 Win over Atletico Madrid

Atletico Madrid failed to go top of the Spanish La Liga after suffering a 2-0 loss against Real Sociedad.

One of the best players in the game was former Arsenal forward Carlos Vela, who managed to score a penalty and create another in the 90 minutes. The return to form for the Mexican forward is extremely important for Real Sociedad and the national team. After several altercations with the Mexican national team, Vela recently committed his future to the team. Mexico have also not been hurt much by the absence of the striker.

Now that he’s back on form, it is almost certain that he will receive a call up to the national team. Vela has scored four goals in his last seven appearances for the Spanish club. Incidentally, these were his first goals of the season after having been disappointing at the start of the campaign. Since scoring against Las Palmas in the 4-1 win, he has never looked back as it was always about the lack of confidence and not about the lack of quality. Atletico, as a result of this defeat, are third in the table after having 21 points from the opening 11 matches.

It is proving to be a tight campaign in the league this season with several times vying for a top spot alongside regular contenders Real Madrid and Barcelona.

One of the few positives for Atletico was the goal by Antoine Griezmann, as he maintained his form since the start of the campaign. The French striker is now one of the top scorers in the division and he trails Lionel Messi only by a couple of goals. It is an impressive statistic considering that Griezmann does not take penalties for Atletico. Atletico would have been hoping for a win from this game as it would give confidence to take on archrivals Real Madrid after the international break.
